FEAR, SIN AND IGNORANCE ( Tackling the terrible triplet)

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? (Romans 6:16 KJV)

In capsule 24 I showed you how fear leads to paralysis and stops the flow of the power of God. Fear is irrational if you really analyse it, it's a product of confusion, lack of understanding and sentiment.

In this capsule I would go further and show you the consequence of sin. Romans 6:16 says when you yield yourself to sin, the consequence is death, or put another way, sin leads to death. What this means is that sin stops the power of God working in your soul and body if you are a Christian. There is a shutting up of the healing power in your born again spirit, preventing it from flowing into/through your soul and body (Romans 8:11). In case you don't know sickness and disease (both physical and psychological ) are death in slow motion.

To be clear not all sickness and disease is due to sin (please refer to Healing Academy: Module 1, Sources of sickness and disease). However where sin is the root cause, it is difficult if not impossible to minister lasting divine healing if it is not dealt with. It will be like cutting the leaves and branches of a tree and leaving the stem and root in place. It is a matter of time before there is a re-manifestation .

There are two ways that I know of dealing with sin when this is the cause of sickness or disease. The first is to remit the sin, that is what Christ did in Mark 2:5-12. This sounds almost impossible to the religious mind, (I don't have the space to go into details here) but see John 20:23

'Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained'

The second or alternative is for the individual involved to confess the sin. If this is done properly it stops sin and the disease in its track and healing is then able to flow. Look at James 5:13-16 with emphasis on verse 16

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (James 5:16 KJV)

I know this has raised more questions, please stay with me, future capsules will help shed more light. Meditate on the scriptures. Capsule 25 will show you how to deal with ignorance

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God (Matthew 22:29,KJV)

In my experience the devil will cheat you if you allow him using 3 main tools FEAR, SIN and IGNORANCE. In the scripture above Christ makes it clear that the reason why we make mistakes is because we don't know the scriptures and as a consequence there is a lack of appreciation of the power of God. You fear what you don't understand, you walk into sin because you don't know the far reaching consequences and what you don't know is killing you!

I will dedicate the next 3 capsules to these terrible triplet.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 2:7,KJV)

This might come as a surprise to you, but fear is a choice! That is why on several occasions Christ will admonish or rebuke people who act in fear. The question you ought to ask yourself is 'why would Christ rebuke or admonish people who express fear if they didn't have a choice?' Mark 4:39-41
Again, faith is a choice, otherwise Christ would not encourage such as in Mark 11:22.

So to be brutally honest, whether you walk in faith or fear is a personal choice. With knowledge comes faith and this counteracts fear. Fear is the default state, you are fearful because you lack the knowledge required to ensure your deliverance. For instance when sickness or disease attacks your body if you don't know what to do, your imagination runs out of control resulting in fear. Fear and faith have consequences both in the spiritual and the physical.

In the physical, fear either leads to hopelessness (inaction) or foolish meaningless actions. In the spiritual, fear stops the flow of the power of God from your spirit .On the other hand faith in physical is seen as boldness or purposeful action and in the spiritual it acts as a conduit for healing to flow from your spirit. You can only act with the coolness that faith demands if you are operating in knowledge. When you command disease or sickness to leave, it knows whether you are doing it in fear or faith.

One person praying in faith is a lot safer and much more productive than a multitude praying in fear. On one occasion I was called to minister to a 'sick' lad. Already there were about 5 people there praying, but it was so obvious that they were praying in fear, 'wishing' something will happen but not sure what. On this occasion I asked all but the sick person to leave the room because there was so much fear in the atmosphere that it was palpable. To the glory of God in less than 30 minutes the problem was solved. In the past I would have been worried or concerned about asking them to leave, not anymore. I have a choice whether to join them in fear or stand alone in faith. I know what to do. ( Acts 9:39,40)

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. (Matthew 6:7 KJV)

One of the commonest complaint I get from people is that despite praying for long, they still are beset by the sickness or disease. The truth is that the result you get has nothing to do with the length of your prayer. As a matter of fact, I personally tend to pray long prayers when I am struggling with unbelief ( Matthew 6:7). What really matters is whether you are praying the right way.

Ahaaa!!!! you didn't know? In 1 Corinthians 9:26-27, Paul says when you don't follow the rules you are like someone who is shadow boxing. It is not the length of your prayer or the loudness of your voice matters ( there is nothing wrong with these two if that is your style). What really matters is the content, quality and direction of your words.

When you are sick , speak to that sickness (not to God), command  the sickness or the devil to take their hands off you in the name of Jesus. It is Satan who is the author of that sickness (not God) so he is the one you command to depart from you.

Look at Mark 11:14

And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it. (Mark 11:14 KJV)

See that little phrase 'and Jesus answered ' It means the fig tree spoke first to Christ. Anytime a disease or sickness appears in your body it is speaking to you, challenging what you believe! You need to answer back! You might need to do it more than once, remember you are dealing with a stubborn enemy. Remember in Luke 4:13, the bible reads that the devil departed from Christ for a season.

A common mistake is, we beg God to remove the sickness, the truth is He already did that is why 1Peter 2:24 is in past tense. It is now your turn to enforce the victory. It took me a long time to understand this but it's been there all along. So fight the right foe, sickness is the foe and the devil is the author.

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15 KJV)

In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross. (Colossians 2:15 NLT)

This is a follow up from capsule 21.The only way the devil can succeed against you is with your cooperation. Most of the time we end up cooperating with him by default because we don't know better. The only power the devil can use against you is the one you surrender to him either knowingly or through ignorance (Hosea 4:6).

I have taken the liberty of using two translations of Colossians 2:15 (to help your understanding) because the implication if well understood is mind boggling! We are fighting a defeated, disarmed foe. If we really appreciate this you will know it is virtually impossible to lose, the only way he can get to you is if he somehow manages to get you to lower your weapon or convince you it is not effective.

What the devil have in abundance are wiles, lies and cunningness , and he is good at using them. It doesn't matter the guise, whether sickness , disease or poverty etc the only way to combat it is through knowledge. That is why Paul advised Timothy to fight the good fight of faith (1Timothy 6:12). It is called the good fight for a reason, because you will always win if you fight the right way.

The implication of this is when disease or sickness comes against you, refuse to cooperate. Refuse to lower your weapon which is your shield of faith and attack it with the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:16-17). Say it is written

'Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by Whose stripes ye were healed.' (1 Peter 2:24 KJV)

' No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord'. (Isaiah 54:17)

'No weapon' means there is no exception to the rule, it does not matter the type of disease or sickness it cannot win, however the later part of that scripture says you have to condemn it. How do you do this? With your words! In this world the battle is won with words!

Keep saying it no matter what, until that sickness and disease melt away! That is the way to fight a defeated, disarmed foe. If you believe it in your heart and confess it with your mouth the victory is bound to manifest.
