DOES GOD TRY US WITH SICKNESS OR DISEASE? (Part 2)
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (Galatians 3:13 KJV)
Following capsule 3, I have received feedbacks and it seems the idea that God does not try or teach us with sickness or disease is a vexed one. There appears to be a stronghold in the minds of people that is so difficult to shift, but if we are going to make any headway this has to be debunked completely.
Broadly speaking there seems to be 2 areas of difficulty
1. The Old Covenant vs New Covenant
2. Misinterpretation of certain scriptures, particularly in the New Testament
I will attend to the first in this blog. For this, the clue is in the name. There is a reason why it is call Old Covenant, but this appears to be completely lost in the understanding of a lot of people. I wish I have the time and space to deal with this thoroughly, but alas the capsule is meant to be smooth to allow for swallowing and small enough for easy digestion.
In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away. (Hebrews 8:13 KJV).
The above scripture is the conclusion of the first 8 chapters of the book of Hebrews. This same point was made in Hebrews 7:18-19. Galatians 3:24-25 gives an analogy, comparing the Old Covenant to a schoolmaster whose sole purpose is to bring us to Christ the Author of the New Covenant, and saying categorically that we are no longer under the control or operations of the schoolmaster, now that we have come to Christ. You cannot mix the two, that is the basis of the parable of the New wine in old wine bottle, it does not and can not work, as attractive as it might be (Luke 5:37-39). The coming of Christ and the atonement made the difference, He fulfilled and ended the law for everyone that believes in His atoning sacrifice (Matthew 5:17, Romans 10:4)
Even under the Old Covenant, in Deuteronomy 28, sickness and disease is listed as a curse, not as a blessing. Galatians 3:13 says Christ delivered us from the curse of the law ( The law was the instrument of operation of the Old Covenant, Grace is the mode of operation of the New Covenant). Ephesians 1:3 says we are blessed with all ( not some) spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus. Sickness is a curse, Divine health is a blessing. You will have to decide which covenant applies to you but you cannot mix the two (Romans 11:6).
THE OLD IS GONE FOREVER, THE NEW HAS COME TO STAY. SO CRAWL OUT FROM UNDER THE OLD AND PUT ON THE NEW.
