Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭12-13‬ KJV)

In the first 21 capsules of this year we have spent sometime establishing what I like to refer to as 'the correct Christian mindset'. The importance of this will become more obvious eventually when we look at the concept of spirit, soul and body. However I believe it is high time we started looking at the practicalities of what we have learnt and how to deploy this great gift of salvation that we have in Christ. The modern church (myself included) have become masters at giving excuses why we are not seeing the power of God demonstrated. Considering what Christ said in Matthew 11:11, the current state of affairs should be a challenge to us. We are more interested in titles and there are far more ministers and ministries than there are miracles. I believe one of the reasons for this is that we are happy to settle for less, we embraced the fluff and ignored the core.

In this capsule I would like to show you the standard we should be aiming for. In John 14:12 Christ challenged His disciples 'Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father'. The phrase verily, verily is translated variously as ' most assuredly', truly, truly' or 'what I'm about to tell you is true'. My question is why did He need to prefix what He was about to tell them with this strong warning? After all everything He ever said is true. I have thought long and hard about this, I believe the reason He did was because He knew that it would blow our mind so much so that we would have difficulty accepting it. But if we are to be the solution, we must be able to live up to this challenge.

The challenge is in two parts : He that believeth on me,
A. ..... the works that I do shall he do also;
B.......and greater works than these shall he do;

People explain the greater works as mass evangelism through the TV and Radio media, they say Christ was not able to do this and we are doing it, reaching millions of people at the same time. For several reasons I disagree that this is the greater works, this does not fit the bill, I am sorry to say it sounds like elegant sophistry. (It's an explanation I have used in the past too). It is obvious that one would need to have done the 'WORKS' before you are able to do the 'GREATER WORKS'. Somehow we have conveniently avoided doing the 'WORKS' but jumped to the 'GREATER WORKS', there is something not right with this picture. The question we should be asking ourselves is 'What are the works that Christ did that made men marvel and say 'What a man of man is this?'(Mark 4:41). I believe only after we have done the 'WORKS' that we can graduate to the 'GREATER WORKS', or should I say first thing first. This is the natural and spiritual order of things.

Lastly, we should not be afraid of tackling the works, because the same Christ that charged us to do the 'WORKS' gave reasons why it is possible and we cannot fail
A. ....because I go unto my Father.
B. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in
the Son.

So the question is what are the 'WORKS'? I am glad you asked, we would consider them in the next capsule

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭12‬ KJV)

In capsule 20 we started on the practical applications of a transformed mind using spiritual warfare as example. Just as an aside, one of the feedback I got (this is not uncommon) is that I oversimplify. This may to a certain extent be true, but my response is that the modern church have over complicated and mystified the truth of God's word such that the result is now confusion and fear in the hearts of many, resulting in spiritual paralysis. We are now codependent on certain individuals, instead of being dependent on the word of God and the Holy Spirit. The incentive for attending the church for most Christians is fear of the devil, not because of the love of and for God. Fear is a poor motivator, poor incentive and a wicked task master, it's an OT deal, it is self destructive (1John 4:18).

Back to FLEX YOUR MIND, in capsule 20 we looked at the strongholds that the devil use to put us under subjugation and they turned out to be nothing more that lies (2 Corinthians 11:3). Consider this, if the truth produces freedom according to John 8:32, what will lies and falsehood do? These lies come in form of IMAGINATIONS, ARGUMENTS, THOUGHTS AND PRETENSIONS otherwise called strongholds . The reason we fail to recognise them as such is because the vehicle they travel in is 'religion' or what the bible call wiles or canniness.

Ephesians 6:12 (scripture above) is a parallel scripture to 2Corinthians10:3-4 (this is a more scary picture). It talks about demonic hierarchy and leaves you in no doubt as to their bad intentions towards you! To compound matters they are in the spiritual and you have to wrestle them despite the fact that we live in the physical. If this is all you know, then you will end up shadow boxing and live in fear of them. But see the solution below

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭10-11‬ KJV)

The 2 verses that preceded verse 12 gave the solution before the problem. It says you should put on the whole armour of God, and you will find a list of the component parts in Ephesians 6:13-17 (note that none of these is physical, they are all knowledge based). After putting them on or when you come into the knowledge of these truths, then and only then that you are strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. The interesting thing is that you do all these to stand against the WILES (or strongholds) of the devil. In other words you can only fight and defeat the IMAGINATIONS, ARGUMENTS, THOUGHTS AND PRETENSIONS of the devil when you are equipped with the superior TRUTH of God's word (Roman 3:4). What the devil is counting on is the possibility of knowledge asymmetry or deficit on your part.

I know this is a fairly long blog, but I cannot end without giving you this personal experience. About 6 years ago a sister had a vivid dream repeatedly that some demonic people took me hostage and threatened to kill me because I confronted them or something to that effect. They demanded that I apologise or it would be 'curtains'. She was surprised when I burst out laughing and to her amazement I even refused to join her in prayer or be concerned, in fact I said they should go ahead. She went further and informed a few people who I respect but my response was the same. The only reason I could do this was because I had taken captive of their IMAGINATIONS, ARGUMENTS, THOUGHTS AND PRETENSIONS and pulled them down with a superior weapon which is the truth of God's word. Praise God! I am still here 6 years later walking in health and wealth (3 John 2, Romans 3:4, Psalm 35:27, Isaiah 54:17). I intend to keep it that way!!!!!

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭3-4‬ KJV)

In the first nineteen capsules this year we spent quite sometime on working on the Christian mindset particularly in the area of divine healing. I truly believe that once we get this right we can build on a solid foundation. The greatest satisfaction I get from teaching the word of God is to see a change in the approach in our Christian walk from beggarly to confident , from desperation to quiet assurance , from timidity to boldness (Hebrews 4:16, 1 John 5:14). It makes all the difference, it speaks well of the unconditional love of God. We must and should never approach God as if He is the author of our problem. With God the provision/supply is always more than the demand (Ephesians 3:20). If this is not our experience as it can be on occasions (myself included) the problem is a knowledge problem and not a God problem (2 Peter 1:2-4).

As promised, we would check out practical application of what a renewed mind can achieve i.e. the transformation you expect. We would start with what is usually referred to as spiritual warfare. Our index scripture is 2 Corinthians 10:3-6, but to make things easily digestible and understandable we will consider verses 3-4 first. In essence what this verses are saying is that we might be in a physical world but we are contending with spiritual forces. These spiritual forces have become strongholds that need to be pulled down with weapons designed by and through God. Taken on face value this is a scary picture, but if we are to make a headway in defeating them and tearing them down as we should, we need to know the constituent parts or what is the make-up of these strongholds (The word translated strongholds appear only once in the NT and refers to fortified opinions or stand points that are difficult to defeat)

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; (‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭5‬ KJV)

Verse 5 describes these STRONGHOLDS as IMAGINATIONS, ARGUMENTS, THOUGHTS AND PRETENSIONS that set themselves against the knowledge of God. It says the way you defeat them is to use your superior weapon to bring them to the obedience of Christ. This sounds like a commentary on Romans 3:4. When I look at all the weapons and strongholds, it appears to me that the battle ground is your mind, (that is where the battle is won or lost). Strong holds come in different forms and 'religion' is the vehicle. If the devil is going to control you he needs your cooperation to believe his lies, and once you believe his lies the rest is easy for him, you cannot fight against what you believe . The best and only form of deliverance that works on a long term basis is self deliverance. The reason for this is that before you can effect it you would have pulled down 'strongholds' in your mind, in other words you would have brought them into captivity . What this means is that you are no longer subject to them.

The reason why people go for repeated deliverance is because the strongholds are still there, they are cutting the branches when the root is still intact (Matthew 12:43-45).The devil is as powerful as you allow him (I know that is a controversial statement but it's true). Except you renew your mind you really don't have anything to aim for and you are on shakey grounds (John 8:30-32, Proverbs 11:9). To be continue....

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ KJV)

'GUARD your mind, WALK in the spirit, RENEW your mind and be TRANSFORMED'. This is the summary of our discussion so far. In our Christian walk there are only two choices, to conform or transform. Conforming requires nothing extra, but for a right thinking Christian transformation is the desired goal and direction. Before we discuss this further I will like to make a cardinal statement and then spend the rest of the blog validating this. The primary purpose of renewing you mind and transforming is not so that you can make heaven but for you to live a victorious Christian life. This should be obvious but somehow it is not. Romans 12:2 (the conclusion) says the reason you transform is so that you can prove......(the word prove means you make visible or confirm to the physical senses)....the good, acceptable and perfect will of God.

There is no sickness, poverty, demonic oppression or condemnation of sin in Heaven. It is the will of God that this should be reflected in your life on earth right here, right now! Or in other words proven or manifested , that is why Matthew 6:10 says 'Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven' . God's will is the status quo in heaven , that is why there is no sickness or disease there, but you need to bring the same to bear in your physical life by renewing your mind and transforming . So as you transform you should see more of divine HEALTH (divine wealth, freedom from demonic oppression and condemnation of sin). In fact you can use these four to make sure your transformation is balanced. The reason why there is so much error in the body of Christ is because we emphasis one or two to the exclusion of the others. The key thing is to challenge yourself constantly in these four areas. Although we are making divine health the focus of our discussion , the same principles can be universally applied.

Transformation comes from the Greek word 'metamorphoo', which means to change to another form (see capsule 16 (2015). It is the same word translated 'changed' in 2 Corinthians 3:18. There are two points to make here, the first is that it is in stages and the second, it takes time. The egg becomes the larva, the larva turns to pupa before the butterfly appears. Every stage is important if you are to last and each stage takes time. You cannot renew your mind in a day or a month or even a year, it takes a life time. The problem is that we have developed this microwave mentality, we want everything instantly. The born again experience is instant, but renewing your mind and transformation to 'prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God' is a process. If you understand this you will not be frustrated. What others consider a setback will be a setup for progress. As you renew your mind the transformation will follow and the physical manifestation of the will of God will show up. For examples Christians who have renewed their minds in the area of material wealth do not bother praying or asking God for it, the same obtains in the area of Divine health, freedom from demonic oppression or sin.

We would consider practical applications of what we have learnt next
