“As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.” Proverbs 26:2 KJV

I sincerely hope you have gained insight into this touchy subject, I know that this is not commonly taught, nevertheless everything I have discussed is based on the veracity of the scriptures! As promised, I will show you the practical applications of what we discussed in capsule 12, unfortunately they are endemic, but I pray your heart will be humble enough to see. None of us is perfect, but by prayer, meditation and observation over several years I have come to identify 4 categories. For ease of discussion I have paired them.

IGNORANCE AND FEAR. This pair is self explanatory, what you don't know will kill you. For some reason a lot of Christians put premium on ignorance. Hosea 4:6 says, 'God's people are destroyed because they lack knowledge. Isaiah 5:13 says, 'you will go into captivity if you lack knowledge. We are more interested in what somebody said or prevailing tradition than searching the word of God. An ignorant person will always be prey to the devil. You will fear things that ought to fear you. People who want to exploit you will have a field day. They will work on your lack of knowledge and use fear as a tool. Once fear grips your heart, faith flies out, then the hedge is broken and you are like a lamb led to the slaughterhouse.

The next three pairs are the most sinister for three reasons, 1. They are found among 'mature' people who should know better, 2. They appear subtle and 3. Usually there is a sense of justification. Ignorance and fear are easily recognisable and remedied where there is willingness' but these three are not.

REBELLION/MURMURING: The freedom we have in Christ unfortunately have been misunderstood, this has given birth to rebellion and murmuring. Whenever liberty is not coupled with responsibility, this is the result. This is the reason why all the adults that left Egypt died in the wilderness and never saw the promise land. At the heart of Rebellion and Murmuring is disobedience and stubbornness which 1 Samuel 15:23, says is as bad as witchcraft and idolatry. Rebellion/Murmuring disrupts DIVINE ORDER and this leads to a break in the hedge (Order: Perfect arrangement of things). I have seen people with great gifts and promise fizzle out because of this evil. A necessary ingredient for rebellion and murmuring is conspiracy and back-biting. Those who conspire with you, in time will conspire against you.

WRONG MOTIVE/SELF-CENTREDNESS (aka PRIDE): You need to constantly search your heart and purify your motives. If you are all wrapped up in yourself, you form a very small package. Contrast Eve's attitude to temptation (Genesis 3) to that of Christ (Luke 4:3-12, Philippians 2:5-8). Pride will destroy the hedge around you in a hurry, instead of considering what you have, you will be more concerned with what you don't have or what others have. It makes you miserable and blur boundaries. Proverbs 13:10a says' 'Only by pride cometh contention:......' Did you notice that it says, 'only by pride....' not that pride is one of the possible causes of contention. Once your motive is wrong, the driving force is self centredness (Philippians 2:3). Arrogance and false humility are the two extremes of pride. Under this category is greed and all forms of sexual sin.

QUARRELS/ANGER: This affects people in leadership more than any other. 2 Timothy 2:24 “And the servant of the Lord must not strive (quarrel); but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,”
The primary reason why quarrels come is because we feel we have to fight our corner as individuals. It is a retaliatory instinct and an expression of our lack of faith in God. God can vindicate you more effectively than you can, all you have to do is trust Him.
Anger is destructive in the short term, Quarrel on the long run leads to bitterness.

As we end this capsule, I will like to point out that none of us is perfect, we all at some point in time unwittingly break the hedge. These last three result from wrong emotions. If you can rule your emotions you will not break the hedge and the serpent will not bite!

I have received some interesting feedbacks in this series, it's time for Temperature and Pulse check!
