The Introduction

In the last series, on more than one occasion I stressed that the scriptures must always be held superior to your experience. The fact that some time your personal experience in life is at variance with what the word of God promises is never a good reason to come up with some philosophical or extra scriptural answers. In fact that should be an incentive to find out why things are not working out as promised by the Word. None of us know it all, and if God is your father you should be confident enough to go back to Him and ask 'why?' (Matthew 5:6). A key ministry of the Holy Spirit is to lead us into all truths (John 16:13)

In the last last series, one of the scriptures we used in our conclusion is Luke 11:8-9. This scripture and the attendant parable was given by Christ immediately after He taught the disciples about prayer, as a demonstration of what to expect when we pray (Theory and Practice). Luke 11:8-9, Matthew 7:7-8 shuts out any argument, it's like belt and braces. If it was just “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you", we would have been justified to come up with some of the explanations that is common place about our individual exceptional circumstances. However the next verse “For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened" gives no wiggle room, makes no individual exception. Everyone means everyone period!, no 'Ifs' or 'Buts' or 'Maybes' or 'No'.

This is the theme all through the New Covenant, it's not just a one off deal. Luke 12:32, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” This promise says God takes pleasure in fulfilling your needs. Matthew 6:7-8 “But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ask". This promise assures you that God knows what you need before you ask, so pretentious, tedious or vain repetition is not necessary (a few of these have crept into the pentecostal idiom). In other words God is not deaf and cannot be bullied. Isaiah 65:24 even prophesied about us “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” This is exactly what Christ alluded to in Luke 18:8a. God does not only want to answer us, He wants it done speedily! Matthew 6:24-34, counters a lot of our common fears, it is more or less saying 'DON'T PANIC, GOD HAS GOT IT COVERED'! (We would take a closer look at Matthew 6:33 later). These and many more scriptures leaves me in no doubt of the willingness of God and that the problem is never with God. Yet virtually everybody I know (myself included) can point at certain occasions when asking did not lead to receiving, seeking did not produce finding, and they knocked and could not find an opening! My prayer is that by the end of this series such situations will become less frequent (Proverbs 4:19)

“For what if some did not believe? Shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.” Romans 3:3-4 KJV

Romans 3:3-4, is the litmus test! It will help simplify things for you, it will concentrate your mind and save you from philosophical explanations that are often peddled as the word of God, without basis in sound doctrine. In fact it will encourage you to go back to God and ask why your experience is at variance to what He promised. Over the years this has been my attitude, I never settle for NO or MAYBE, I find out why, so that I can receive what is promised! I cannot claim I have all the answers, not by a long stretch, far from it, in fact nobody has (1 Corinthians 13:9-11). My intention is to share some of the things I have found in the next few capsules. I intend to answer some nagging questions that seem to bug you and I.

I believe with all my heart that this series will change lives like no other, be ready to engage and have your minds detoxed and transformed.
