“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” 2 Corinthians 1:20 KJV

In the last capsule we discussed what I consider the most important reason in answering the nagging question 'Why am I not getting the results as promised in Matthew 7:7-8 and Luke 11:8-9?' This is a legitimate question which demands intelligent answers, not some philosophical explanation. The fundamental reason in my estimation is because majority have failed to understand the primary purpose of prayer, which is to fellowship with God. This is MAKING THE MAIN THING THE MAIN THING. I cannot over emphasise this, and in conclusion we touched on Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" which is often quoted by many but poorly understood in context. There are two kinds of 'RIGHTEOUSNESS', that based on the works of the LAW and that which is received by faith based on Grace.
The first is the one you are trying to earn by your efforts. But the RIGHTEOUSNESS being referred to here is the one imparted by God according to 2 Corinthians 5:21.

Matthew 6:33, is referring to the second one (note the phrase 'and His righteousness'). The implication is that once you are able to understand this Righteousness (that is your right standing with God through Christ) your expression of faith is no longer a struggle (Romans 1:17).

“For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The second reason in answering that nagging question is seen in 2 Corinthians 1:19-20 , the passage above. This passage is saying exactly the same thing as Matthew 7:7-8 and Luke 11:8-9, but clarifies it much more. Everything that God has provided in the redemptive work of Christ, comes with a guaranteed YES when you ask! You can only get what has been paid for by the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, nothing more, nothing less. Here is where the problem is, the vast majority do not know what has been promised in the New Covenant because they do not fellowship with God, all their interaction with God is limited to asking . Their prayer basically is a monologue of demands, not conversation, they have never enjoyed a father-son relationship with Him. They have based their understanding of God on what they see others do, not on the word.
Asking for things not promised in the New Covenant, apart from being wrong, is fraught with grave danger because the devil can take advantage of your ignorance and answer. The commonest example of this is when people ask for destruction of their 'enemy', there is no provision for this in the redemptive work of Christ. God will protect you from your 'enemies'.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” Ephesians 1:3KJV

Another scripture that helps to clarify this is Ephesians 1:3. You will note that when it refers to all spiritual blessings, it qualifies it as those in Christ. I tell colleagues and friends all the time that the bible is complete and it runs a commentary on itself, all you need is to apply a little bit of intelligence. 1 Corinthians 2:12, God gave us His Spirit so that we might know THE THINGS that have been freely given on to us by God (1 Corinthians 2:9-16 in context). You should not be asking for things that are outside of these provisions. The New Covenant takes care of everything that you need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). So when Mark 11:24 says '“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them'', the bible expect you to know that the 'what things so ever Ye desire' should be within the confines of the promises in the New Covenant.

As we close on this capsule I pray that things are becoming clearer to you, but this is not all, there is more to it and we would be considering a few of the answers to that nagging question in subsequent capsule. I would like to encourage you that we are all learning and everything that I now teach against I did in the past that is why I am passionate. Stick to what is provided in Christ, then ask and expect to receive, seeking leads to finding, when you knock it opens with greater frequency in Jesus name, amen!
