ANSWERS TO SOME NAGGING QUESTIONS: MAKING THE MAIN THING, THE MAIN THING
“Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.”
John 4:22 KJV
Starting with this capsule, by the grace of God, I hope to share with you some of the answers to that nagging question 'Why am I not getting the results as promised in Matthew 7:7-8 or Luke 11:8-9? This is a potent question every born again child of God should ask and expect answers. Don't explain it away, you will be doing yourself a disfavour and this will invariably lead to frustration.
However, before we start, I would like to put some disclaimers on record. I do not claim to have all the answers, but I can guarantee you that the things we are going to share will definitely improve your experience and answers to your prayers.
Secondly, everything that I will counter or teach against, I have done in the past but by the grace of God I now know better.
Thirdly, these truths will cut across and can be applied in the 4 cardinal areas of Forgiveness of Sin, Freedom from demonic oppression, Divine Health/Healing, and Material prosperity. Indeed it will nourish and fertilise your Christian experience.
The first and probably the most important reason is failure to 'MAKE THE MAIN THING, THE MAIN THING'. To understand this, we would consider the interaction between Christ and the Samaritan Woman in John chapter 4. In verse 22, Christ said in part to her (my translation), 'you are worshiping God who you don't know or who you don't understand'. This is a damning assessment of her spiritual life and understanding. Unfortunately, this also applies to a sizeable proportion of people in church today! For some reasons we have completely misunderstood the purpose of prayer. Virtually most times prayer is taught, it is about how to get something from God or to get Him to do something. While there is a place for this, it is really a small fraction. I know this might be difficult for a lot of people to accept, especially because we are daily pressed on every side by needs. But ask yourself, 'Are you aware of any healthy relationship were those involved don't know each other well?' If you are going to be truthful, the answer is an unqualified No! Prayer is primarily a means of communicating, and fellowshipping with God. When this is done based and premised on the word, the result is that we get to know Him intimately and from this flows TRUST. Trust is a by product of your knowledge of God, there is no other way. (This ought to be obvious?) Hebrews 11:6. It is impossible to trust God who you do not know, and how can you know Him if all your interactions with Him is based solely on NEED and demand. It is virtually impossible to behave with confidence or properly towards God except you know Him. See the contrast between the Old and New Covenant saints, one was a nation of servants who had no real interaction with God except through Laws, the other is a family made of 'sons' in whom God dwells (That is the commentary and picture painted by Hebrew 12:18-24). God has called us to know and fellowship with Him, absolutely every other thing derives from this (John 4:24, John 17:3)
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto ". Matthew 6:33 KJV
In Matthew 6:24-34, Christ listed the different needs that causes anxiety and more or less dismissed them saying, God is aware of all of them and has already made provision for us so there is no good justification for us to panic or be anxious like people who don't know God (that is the Gentiles). As an antidote to any form of anxiety, He prescribed verse 33 'But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto"! Unfortunately, despite the fact that this verse is commonly quoted, in my estimation it is often misinterpreted! This verse in context is simply saying 'your main focus should be to understand the person of God and His ways of doing things and everything you need will follow effortlessly' in other words knowing God is the main thing, your needs will be taken care of.
I sincerely pray that you are assimilating this truth, the other reasons we would touch on are just practical applications of this. God has an intense desire to fellowship with His family, that is why He gave us the scriptures, resides in us by His Spirit, gave us an open invitation to hang out with Him constantly (2Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 4:16, Hebrews 13:5). We have a strong relationship with Him because we trust Him. We trust Him because we know Him. We know Him because we fellowship and communicate with Him, Paul describes it as the FELLOWSHIP or COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (2 Corinthians 13:14). This is making 'THE MAIN THING' THE MAIN THING! Once you understand this and it becomes a living concept, asking and receiving, seeking and finding, knocking and 'open' will happen increasingly.
FIRST MAKE THE MAIN THING THE MAIN THING
In the next capsules we would touch on the other reasons, don't worry, expect things to fall into place. God has got it covered!
