BLESSINGS AND MIRACLES
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:” Ephesians 1:3 KJV
I ended the last capsule on a cautionary note that despite the fact that God's preferred option is for us to learn to work in the Blessings, there will always be situations where only a Miracle will do. This is because we live in a fallen world and secondly there are things we ought to know but we don't. Spiritual maturity takes time and dedication to the things of God (1 Corinthians 13:11-12, Isaiah 28:9-10). To ensure that His ultimate plan comes to pass, He has made provision for temporary suspension of the Natural laws (that is Miracles) on those occasions when our backs are against the wall. Imagine what would have happened if the Red Sea did not part for the newly delivered nation of Israel (who were yet to know God) when Pharaoh showed up in hot pursuit. (Exodus 14:21-22). Or if there was no provision of manna in the wilderness when they did not have the time or land to plant and harvest (Exodus 16:13-15).
The modern Church have however gone to the extreme, preaching and teaching the constant desire for Miracles. This has perverted the order of things and the average Christian has developed this short cut mentality, wanting everything now! They would rather spend all their time praying without working, instead of praying over their work (Psalms 1:3 and 2 Thessalonians 3:10).
The implication and consequence of this misplaced and muddled thinking is huge. Most do not know how to nurture and walk in the blessing, creating unnecessary frustration. On the other hand however, it has given the devil in-roads into the church by way of inordinate desire for material wealth (1 Timothy 6:10). Virtually every Church bill board you see, is advertising one miracle service or the other, exploiting the ignorant and fuelling greed.
I would like to end this capsule on a personal note that would demonstrate what we have shared so far. About 23 years ago my wife and I were allocated an empty council flat, the problem was that we had no money to furnish it. As I pondered on what to do....? within minutes, a friend that we have not heard from for a long time called asking whether we knew of anybody that needed furnitures. One of her clients had relocated to Australia and they needed to clear the house. In addition they would provide transportation. The flat had virtually everything we needed, from brand new beds to gas cooker, some where still in their original wrappings. Within a day, from nothing, we had more than enough! we even had to give some things away.
Again, when I got my first job in Milton Keynes (after not working for two and a half years), while I was considering what to do (we lived in London and I didn't have enough money for transportation). That afternoon, without discussing with anybody, somebody volunteered to drive me down, when we got to Milton Keynes, he left the only car he had for me to use and took public transport back to London (things like these happened over and over, multiple times).
After a period of time I learnt how to walk in the blessings and it seem we had what we needed without any drama. Whilst meditating on this one day, I felt I was missing out on the drama of those early days and wondering why. I felt the Lord spoke to me, asking 'Which would I prefer, a life of constant supply without the drama or go back to those edgy days?'. I quickly repented, this is a better way to live, constant supply!
Now I am walking in the Blessings, I can go out and buy what I need without waiting for somebody else's cast away, also give away things without trepidation (2 Corinthians 9:8). Similarly, It is better to walk in divine health, without waiting to fall ill and looking for someone to lay hands on me. I walk free from the condemnation of sin and demonic oppression, instead of looking for somebody to minister 'deliverance'. It's a far better way to live when you are learning to cooperate with the blessing. The spoken favour of God, enhancing the natural laws to yield exponentially for my benefit (Proverbs 10:22, Ephesians 1:3).
I pray you are experiencing a stirring, there is much mediocrity being taught, fluff, when we should be reaching for the deeper things of God. From the next capsules we would take a closer look, compare and contrast Blessings and Miracles so that we can learn to receive God's best. These are things you might not have considered before or even heard before. As we discuss they will become clear, all you need to do is make the necessary mental adjustments (Romans 12:2)
WE ARE ALREADY BLESSED, ALL WE NEED IS ADJUSTED THINKING!
