“......Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:” Acts 10:34b KJV

From capsule 33 in the series we started on the reality of Faith in the process of bringing Blessings into manifestation. Again I would like to reiterate that, this is not an exhaustive discussion on faith. I have focused on its application with respect to this discussion. Secondly, I am concentrating on some of the areas that I feel are poorly taught and understood. There is much to say, but not enough space. The first overriding point I would like to make is that the spiritual is governed by laws. It is amazing how so many do not consider this. The Physical world is governed by physical laws, similarly the Spiritual world is governed by spiritual laws, it is that simple. This ought to be obvious, but somehow (especially in Pentecostal and charismatic setting) we have substituted emotional display for spiritual. The point I am trying to make, is that faith is governed by Laws. Laws are constant, they promote order and make outcomes predictable. The beauty of this, is that once you understand these laws, your faith will always produce the desired result, because God is not a respecter of persons (Romans 2:11, Acts 10:34). There are many laws that govern faith, I do not claim to know all, otherwise I would get better results (but that is a topic for another day). My intention here is to share two principal Laws of faith that are well known but poorly understood and wrongly applied.

“That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.”
Philemon 1:6 KJV

Your faith rises or falls based on your confession, in fact that is the way you became born again (Romans 10:9-10), Faith is voice activated. The common perception in Christian circles is that, your confession 'makes things so, even when it is not'. For instance in healing, it is commonly taught that, if you confess 'by His stripe I was healed' several times, eventually you will become healed even though you are sick. Similarly for material prosperity (2 Corinthians 8:9), freedom from demonic oppression (1 John 4:4) etc. This line of thought is faulty and does not have a firm scriptural foundation, in fact it is the reason why confession has acquired a bad name. You do not confess to make it so, rather you are confessing what is already so. Huge difference! the first approach is presumption, the second is faith. You are confessing what you know already exists in the spiritual. Abraham's confession did not make him father of many nations, his confession acknowledged the fact that God had already made him father of many nations (Genesis 17:5).This is what is described as mixing the word with faith in Hebrews 11:4.

Philemon 1:6 captures the essence, your confession makes your faith effective, when you are acknowledging all the good things that already exist in you (New Creation) in Christ. You are not making up story, you are telling the truth. All the healing that you need already exist in you (Romans 8:11). So when you say 'by His stripe I was healed' (1 Peter 2:24), you are not wishing it is so, you are acknowledging what is already so in the spiritual and making a draw on that deposit to manifest in the physical. This is the reason why commitment is the first step we dealt with in the application. It is futile confessing what you don't believe exist! It is a law of faith. God imparted every blessing the day you accepted Christ, they already exist in you and by faith (knowledge) you draw them out (2 Peter 1:3-5).

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17 KJV

Your faith is fuelled by what you hear. I wish I had the right words to explain this. Romans 10:16, is a direct quote from Isaiah 53:1a, 'Who has believed our report?' Isaiah was saying things that did not have precedence in human experience, so the question arose, 'How would anybody believe this?'. Romans 10:17 gives the solution, 'Faith is activated by hearing the word of God continuously, or faith is energised by one thing and one thing only....the Word of God' (my paraphrase). The reason for this is simple, faith sees into the spiritual and the only reference for the spiritual is the Word of God (capsules 33,34). Note the phrasing, 'hearing, and hearing by the word of God'. Meaning for you to operate continuously in faith, you must give your ears constantly to the word of God. It is not a one time deal, and it has to be the word of God (Romans 1:17, Romans 14:23, 2 Corinthians 5:7). Interestingly, the reverse is true, doubt/unbelief comes through hearing the voice of the world (2Corinthians 4:4).

Every born again child of God has faith, the difference is in the level of operation (Romans 2:11, Acts 10:34, Romans 12:3). There are many more Laws of faith, the concept of a capsule, limits the volume of the discussion. These two laws are basic, understanding them would reveal more. I pray that your eyes of understanding will be enlightened. In the next capsule we would consider something else in the application of Blessings.
